Winland Racing 2009

Enduro Racing in Northern California

From the beginning

The Winland Racing Team  started in 1986 at Baylands Speedway.  Ken was looking for a motorsport thrill after he had damaged his 4 wheeler during an offroad adventure.  His Uncle Gary said "why do you want to ruin your point A to point B vehicle when you can build a car and race it at the track"  Ken went to the track the following week and he was hooked.

The early years were spent learning how to build and drive large cars and trying to survive more than 25 laps on the water soaked Baylands Raceway Park.  Baylands Enduros usually had about 200 cars.  We lined up 3 wide all the way around the track and into the pits.  These races were what enduros were all about. Muddy track, too many cars, packed track, rookie drivers, its amazing anyone ever finished those races.

Stock Car Enduro Racing has evolved quite a bit since WR started.  The cars are quite a bit more competitive.  Most races average 20-70 cars per race with many experienced drivers who are actually on the track to race.

Winland Racing has been at it for 23 years and our best finish has been 2nd place, 3rd place, a couple of 5ths and a bunch of top 10's.

Our Goal for the 2009 season is to chalk up our first checkered flag....

In addition, Ken has been instrumental is starting and running the West Coast Enduro Group (WCE)  Kens main focus is to help build the sport and to work with local tracks to schedule races.  WCE members just revised our rules package that will be adopted by area tracks.  Visit us @ www.westcoastenduro.org for more information.

It is always fun sharing the hard earned trophy with neighbors and friends.

The car was still basically in one piece.....until the next week. (see rebuilding photos)
